Sacramento, California, the capital of the sunshine state may be on the smaller side compared to cities like San Francisco or Los Angeles but that doesn’t mean that it’s any less jammed packed with fun and exciting things to do during the summer.

The R Street Block Party
June 24th | 3:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Who doesn’t love a good block party? The R Street Block Party is making a comeback on Sunday, June 24th, featuring a day packed full of live art, food, and music as well as a slew of Northern California’s best vendors. The block party will take place on 11th Street through 13th Street in the cities up and coming arts district.
Fourth on the Field 2018
July 4th | 6:00 – 10:00 p.m.
Join the party at Raley Field on July 4th for the annual Fourth on the Field event. Go head to head in a potato sack race or hot dog eating contest, have a beer in the Beer Garden on the concourse level, and enjoy live music while you wait to watch the fireworks. There’s a ton of activities for all age groups, so make sure to checkout their website for more information.
The California State Fair, located at Cal Expo near Raging Waters, takes place from July 13th – July 29th. This year’s fair features live music and entertainment every night, including performances from classic bands like Kool and the Gang and more! It will even host the first annual Sacramento mariachi band competition.
On top of that, every Friday and Saturday night, there will be captivating fireworks display, but be sure to get there earlier on in the day so you enjoy the array of classic rides, games, and delicious carnival food.
Best of California Brewfest 2018
July 21st | 3:00 – 6:00 p.m.
Come taste the best brews that the Golden State has to offer on July 21st. Located at the California State Fair, the Best of California Brewfest is a widely popular event. For only $40 ($45 for day of tickets), attendees get a 5 ounce souvenir cup to sample beers in, complimentary California State Fair admission. For $5 more, you’ll get a VIP ticket which grants you early access and exclusive beer selections.
Concerts in the Park
Every Friday through July 27th | 5:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Concerts in the Park (CIP) started on May 4th, but this ongoing free music festival is something you don’t want to miss! Nearly 6,000 fans show up to watch and listen to Sac Town’s hottest DJs, local artists, and touring artists each Friday. Make sure you come out to Cesar Chavez Plaza for this incredibly fun event!
Sactown Wings 2018
July 29th | 2:00 – 6:00 p.m.
The annual chicken wing festival in Sacramento is back for it’s 5th straight year. SacTown wings boasts “music, games, cheap craft beer, and over 40,000 chicken wings” as well as lively music, games, and a KidZone with inflatables, a face painter and more. General admission is $10 in advance and $15 the day of (beer and wings are not included in this price).
Jazz Sundays by Capital City Jazz & Swing
August 12th | Noon – 5:00 p.m.
Capital City Jazz & Swing are coming back with their monthly Jazz Sundays. Traditionally held the second Sunday of every month, head to the Riverside Elks Lodge for some live Jazz performances covering an array of sub genres and styles from this timeless American genre on August 12th. From painters to textile artists, wood workers to tailors, and sculptors, you are bound to fine some beautiful locally produced goods to purchase. The event also features food trucks, a petting zoo, and some live music to jam out to as you relax on the grass under the shade.
2nd Saturday Art Walks
2nd Saturday Every Month | 5:30 – 9:00 p.m.
Every 2nd Saturday of the month in the Downtown and Midtown areas of Sacramento, tons of galleries and local businesses will host free open houses and art exhibits showcasing local art and music, food and more. The 2nd Saturday Art Walk usually starts at 5:30 p.m. and is a great opportunity to both experience and support Sacramento’s rich local art, music, and food scenes.
